In Brief
The three pyramids dominate the Giza Plateau. Surrounding the father -son-grandson trio are smaller pyramids belonging to their final dependents, and the mastabas of their courtiers and relatives.
The word Mastaba comes from the Arabic World for bench. Which these tombs resemble in shape if not in scale.
Generally two of the three pyramids are open, and recently the queen's pyramids east of Khufu's pyramid have been opened to the public. If you choose one pyramid to go into, make it the great pyramid of Khufu.

The great Sphinx:
Located at the eastern age of the Plateau guarding the necropolis .The Egyptian Sphinx is related to the Greek Sphinx only in that both types are compound animals, part human and part feline. The Sphinx was curved from living rock, with additional details and the final casing made of limestone rocks.
" The pyramids, Sphinx, and some of the Mastabas all date from the forth Dynasty.
Several monuments on the Plateau are open to visitors: a combination of Pyramids, a Mastaba, the boat museum, and the Sphinx will give you a taste of the sight.


Saqqara:
Saqqara is best known for being the earliest stone Pyramid constructed in Egypt, the step Pyramid of Djoser. The base of the Pyramid measures 459 feet by 386 feet, and the structure was originally 197 feet high.
It is the first stone pyramid built in Egypt, and its form imitates wood, papyrus, and mud brick, mating in limestone.
The step pyramid itself begun as a mastaba tomb, but its design was modified six times before the final, six -stepped pyramid emerged.
You enter the complex from small doorway that leads through a long passage flanked by columns that in turn leads to the vast open HEB-SED court.
The HEB-SED was a race that the Pharaoh had to run every thirty years in order to reaffirm his strength, power and ability to rule and to renew the favor of the God. After he successfully completed the race, the Pharaoh would officiate and participate in religious rituals that emphasized the support of the gods for his reign and the fealty of his nobles and governors.

The Egyptian antiquities museum :
The imposing building which presently hosts the Cairo Egyptian Museum was designed by the French architect, Marcel Dourgnon, winner of an international competition, today the museum hosts the most important collections of Egyptian art and treasures in the world.
Among the 100,000 pieces housed on the museums 2 floors is the famous exhibit of Tutankhamun, whose tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922 .the tomb and all this young king treasures you will be able to see it there beside some real pharonic mummies which have been preserved for more than 5000 years. the Egyptian museum is the best place all over the world to see great collections from the old kingdom , the middle kingdom , the new kingdom and Greco-roman periods .

The Valley of the Kings:
Encircled by majestic hills, the new kingdom royal necropolis is slightly isolated from the other west bank monuments.
The valleys 62 tombs can be dated between the reigns of Thutmose I (18th dynasty) and Ramesses XI (20th dynasty).
The texts and decoration inside royal tombs are very different from those inside private tombs. The royal tombs contain illustrations of complex spiritual texts - the book of the dead - among them intended to accompany the deceased during his journey though the afterlife and to aid with the long term expectation of rebirth, on the other hand private tombs were decorated with meaningful scenes from daily life.

The Valley of the Queens:
Was known as " place of the beautiful ones " where seventy-five tombs were cut into the valley rock. A great number are anonymous; others have extremely delicate and well-preserved paintings .The tombs below are at various points on the path through the valley, starting on the right side of the first fork (Nefertari).

Deir Al-Bahri:
Which the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, built by the architect Senenmut, is a sublime piece of architecture - some say the finest on the planet for its harmony with its surroundings.

HATSHEPSUT:
Was the most important woman ever to rule over Egypt as pharaoh. Instead of waging war to expand Egyptian territory like her predecessors, she choosed to consolidate the country, build monuments and organize expeditions to the land of punt to bring myrrh, incense and offerings for the gods .prior to acting as Pharaoh , she served as regent for her successor ( Thutmose III ) .

Colossi of Memnon:
The mortuary temple of Ramesses standing over 50 feet tall, these seated statues of the great Amenhotep III are the most significant vestiges of his mortuary temple.
The missing pieces were taken away for use in other buildings as early as the end of the new kingdom. Along side the legs of the colossi are standing figures of the kings mother and his queen, Tiyi.
The poetry of these colossi is the sound that the northern statues emitted in earlier days. After an earthquake fractured the colossus in 27 B.C, it was said to sing softly at dawn. That sound recalled for Greeks the time the myth of Memnon, who was meeting his mother Eos outside the walls of Troy Achilles

Temple of Luxor:
The Luxor temple stands near the edge of the Nile surrounded by modern buildings in the city centre. The temple was dedicated to the gods Amun-Re, Mut and Khousu (the moon god).
Just after the main gate of the temple you will see the " Avenue Of Sphinx ", which is lined by 70 human headed sphinx, 34 on the west side and 36 on the east. The temple contains some great colossi and obelisks, one of those obelisks was given to France as a present by the (Mohammed Ali Pasha), other two were also given to France and can be seen in the Louver .

KARNAK TEMPLE:
Karnak is without a doubt, the most impressive assemblage of ancient Egyptian religious monuments .The site is divided into three major precincts, dedicated respectively to the divinities Amun-Re (the central complex), Mut (south of the central complex) and Montu (north).
